OVERVIEW

Amotions is a start-up company that assists managers as well as hybrid and remote teams in boosting their productivity. This is achieved by enhancing soft skills through personalized solutions and AI-powered coaching.

During my time as a Product Design Intern at Amotions, I was responsible for leading the design of the AI coaching features and the overall iOS design. I collaborated with a full-stack team, an AI researcher, and two other designers.

Coach Amo: Instant Feedback and Reminders for New Managers

New managers can pose questions to Coach Amo, an AI chatbot, to receive immediate feedback and timely reminders about their upcoming meetings with teammates.

CONTEXT

In the highly competitive world of business today, new tech industry managers are finding it increasingly difficult to steer their teams towards high performance and efficiency.

I conducted a thorough analysis of our direct competitors and identified key features of their offerings.

USER RESEARCH

Through interviews, we identified three major challenges in their managerial experience.

Pain Points

1. Communication Challenges: New managers may struggle with effective communication, such as conveying expectations, providing feedback, or resolving conflicts within their team.
2. Lack of Experience: New managers may feel overwhelmed by the transition into a leadership role due to limited experience in managing teams or making critical decisions.
3. Adapting to Change: Adjusting to new roles, responsibilities, and organizational changes can be a source of stress and uncertainty for new managers.

OUR END USER

Having the understanding that we were developing for a particular user base, we acquired additional insights to bear in mind during the design of our screens.
1. 8 out of 10 interviewees want feedback on how to prepare for their upcoming meetings, such as improving communication.
2. All 10 interviewees used their phone to quickly ask questions about management style.

DESIGN OPPORTUNITIES

After extensive discussions, we finalized three product directions.

1. Personalized Home Page: This design is informed by user data and preferences, allowing us to present the most relevant content and features to each user, thereby enhancing usability and satisfaction.
2. Monitor Progress: Here, users can also track their progress and keep a record of their ongoing improvement.
3. Coach Amo: New managers can pose questions to Coach Amo, an AI chatbot, to receive immediate feedback and timely reminders about their upcoming meetings with teammates.

FEEDBACK & ITERATIONS

We went through multiple iterations, but my main focus will be on presenting the design process of the AI chatbot.
Following a conversation with the AI prompt engineer, it was mutually agreed that testing should be carried out to evaluate Coach Amo's ability to generate results that align with user expectations.

After consulting with the UX designer, PM, and CEO, we made the decision to prioritize personalized feedback for users. As a result, we opted for a solution that includes reminders and notifications, providing timely reminders to users and offering recommended practices or videos provided by Amotions.

I also made it easier to find practices by adding a filter and divided them into completed and not completed categories so that users can keep track of their progress.

RESULT

With the improved design, managers were able to receive more personalized and specific feedback through the AI chatbot. Additionally, managers can now receive notifications about their upcoming meetings, and the AI chatbot will recommend helpful videos or practices to assist them in preparation.

TAKEAWAYS

Learnings
While working within the project's constraints, I found it highly advantageous to have been provided with an existing design system. Throughout the process, I consistently reminded myself to review the design system to ensure that I was not introducing anything new that could potentially compromise usability.

Next Steps
My next project with Amotions is to further develop the AI chatbot and expand it into a dedicated page within the web application. Additionally, I will be working on implementing gamification elements to motivate managers to enhance their soft skills and conquer any challenges they may encounter.
